How to Get Your Skin Summer Ready
Posted on April 18 2019
We all want drop-dead gorgeous skin. However, there are some things that can stand in the way. For example, did you know that your environment affects your skin? Yes, ma'am. Living in an area with lots of air pollution can be the cause of those unwanted pimples. Since we recently transitioned into spring, that means summer is around the corner. Here are some ways that you can improve your skin and achieve a glow that will make you the envy of your circle of friends. FYI: There's a little surprise at the end of the blog!
Throw out the soap. Soap is the worst thing you can use to clean your face. Soap dries out your skin and can lead to wrinkles. Less hydration (natural oils) means here come the fine lines and wrinkles. Instead, find a great cleanser that doesn’t contain stripping agents. If you have naturally oily skin, find a great combo cleanser to help manage the excess oil.
Pack on the sunscreen. We can’t stress this one enough. It doesn’t matter if you’re fair-skinned or melanin-rich; everyone needs to protect their skin from the harmful UV rays of the sun. We’ve all seen beautiful, mature women with wrinkles and think “how did she get those?” Well, she didn’t make SPF her BFF. Don’t let that be you. Many moisturizers on the market contain SPF in the formula. No excuses.
Water, water, water. Drink as much water as possible. The human body is about 60% water. We sweat, we urinate, and repeat. We’re constantly losing water so it’s important to replace that water. A good rule of thumb is to drink half your weight in ounces each day. For example, if you weigh 150 lbs. you’ll want to drink 75 oz. of water per day to avoid dehydration.
Collagen. Collagen is a protein the body natural produces but begins to decline around the age of 25. We need collagen to keep our skin in tip-top condition. The layer of skin called the dermis sees the most benefit. It’s where you can find wrinkles. Supplementing with collagen can improve your skin’s elasticity and reduce the appearance of unwanted wrinkles. This protein is also great for helping keep your skin hydrated.
